Could the GOP really lose the Senate?

Jazz Shaw Posted at 10:31 am on May 26, 2020

While everyone is focusing on the Presidential race and the electoral college this year, some GOP strategists are getting a bit nervous about the Senate. Of the upper chamber seats up for grabs, the GOP is defending more of them that look potentially vulnerable if Democrats get some momentum going. This is probably even more important than the question of who wins the White House. If Donald Trump manages to lose his bid for a second term, a GOP Senate majority is the only thing that would act as a check on the new Democratic president’s agenda, whether that winds up being Joe Biden or somebody else.

The Hill has a breakdown of the Senate races to keep an eye on this fall. And if you’re a fan of the conservative agenda, the look of this map might have you getting a bit worried.

Quote
Five senators are staring down serious political danger ahead of the November elections.

With less than three months to go until Election Day, the battle for control of the Senate hinges on five key states. Democrats are after four seats in particular – in Arizona, Colorado, Maine and North Carolina – while Republicans are largely playing defense, but see an easy pickup opportunity in Alabama.

A handful of seats in states like Iowa, Montana and Michigan are also showing signs they may be in play.

As things stand right now, in order to take control, the Democrats will need to flip a net total of four GOP seats if Trump wins or three seats if Biden takes the Oval Office, allowing his veep to break all the ties.

The first and most likely seat to flip is that of Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama. He’s only in the Senate because Roy Moore was such a heavily damaged candidate. Either Jeff Sessions or Tommy Tuberville ought to be able to remove Jones, so then the Democrats will need to flip 5 or 4 seats, depending on Trump’s outcome. So where do they find five seats?

Any rational observer can see Arizona's in trouble, and it's likely we'll have two Rat Senators from the State of Barry Goldwater.  How can this happen?  Well, keep in mind we just had the McStain/Flakey wrecking crew blow through, and the GOP bench in AZ is not very strong.  Those two, and a few others, worked very hard to keep seats saved for themselves, but their efforts at eliminating competition for those two killed a lot of promising careers.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

Alabama is an almost certain pickup.

Arizona is almost a certain loss. It's slowly but steadily changing from a purple to a blue state.

Colorado doesn't look good.

Maine is a toss-up.

North Carolina? No idea. Probably leans a bit Republican.

The question is, have the republican senate earned our vote?
Russiagate is still ongoing with no orange jump suites in our future...
Spending out of control
Borders not secure
Gov overreach remains out of control.
Constitution still under assault nationwide and congress is silent...
True, some judges have been appointed

I will vote but not excited about it...
Folks need a reason to vote...

Just putting things in perspective here; the main problem with BOTH the Senate and House has been failed leadership.  The GOP held the majority in both Houses, it was Ryan who kept the House from accomplishing goals and Ryan thankfully left, but the GOP lost the House majority and Pelosi took over.  McConnell finally grew a pair after McCain passed, but he's up against a DEM majority House that has done nothing but try to derail this presidency; including impeachment.

It has been the House that has time and time again rejected funding for the wall.  Yes, the GOP should have funded the darn thing before they lost the House ... but Ryan set up roadblocks and unfortunately Trump didn't make it a priority.  HUGE mistake!!

I couldn't agree with you more ... lots of Senators and our Reps don't deserve our vote.  As for the orange jumpsuits, Barr is the one who hasn't done squat, but that's not the fault of the Senate -- the Senate didn't pick him, Trump did!

Government overreach right now is an understatement.  That's the fault of the governors.

Everywhere we turn the GOP isn't doing there darn jobs ... not much has changed.

Trump has tried (and in some cases succeeded) to point this country in a more positive direction; he has made strides in spite of Pelosi and the DEMS .... imagine what his battle will be like with a DEM majority in both Houses.  Imagine our battle if Biden gets in.

I also am not looking forward to this upcoming election.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
