At least one security force member was injured Thursday morning in an active-shooter incident at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

The coastal base in Nueces County, Texas, about 140 miles southeast of San Antonio, was on lockdown after security responded to an active shooter around 6:15 a.m.

The shooter was "neutralized," the base said in a Facebook post.

A US Navy air base in Corpus Christi, Texas is on lockdown after an active shooter incident at the facility. Soon after the alarm was raised, officials said the shooter had been “neutralized.”

The shooting was reported at around 6.15am local time Thursday. As Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) investigators and local law enforcement responded, airbase officials warned anyone near the north gate of the base to “get out and away to safety.”

“Execute lockdown procedures – remain indoors and away from windows,” they added in a Facebook post about the unfolding incident.

Corpus Christi Police Department, meanwhile, urged anyone outside the facility to “avoid the area entirely.”

The FBI is investigating a Thursday shooting at a Texas naval air station, after a Navy security team there killed an “Arab male” who stormed a gate at the base, a U.S. official told USNI News.

Alsahli, 20, attempted to ram through the gate, before getting out and opening fire. The FBI’s Houston office identified Alsahli in a tweet Friday. “UPDATE: Now that next of kin has been notified, the FBI officially confirms that the suspect in Thursday’s #CorpusNASShooting has been identified as 20 year old Adam Salim Alsahli,” the FBI tweeted.

Security forces at the front gate raised a barrier, stopping Alsahli from driving through. He reportedly got out and began firing after he was stopped. The FBI declared the shooting a terrorist incident on Thursday afternoon and indicated they were searching for a second person of interest in the shooting.

The Associated Press reported on Friday that social media accounts believed to belong to Alsahli, voiced support for Al Qaeda cleric Ibrahim al-Rabaysh. Alsahli’s potential Al Qaeda ties were identified by Rita Katz, director of the SITE Intelligence Group.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The suspect killed at the scene of Thursday’s “terrorism-related” shooting at a U.S. naval air base in Texas has been identified as 20-year-old Adam Aalim Alsahli, a Syrian-born U.S. citizen, federal law enforcement officials said on Friday.

In the Thursday morning attack, the gunman opened fire at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, wounding one sailor, a member of the base security force, but the assailant was the only person killed, the FBI said.

The suspect’s name and age were confirmed to Reuters in an email from an FBI official, and tweeted by the agency. No further official information about the suspect was immediately released.
