French lawmakers pass legislation that will turn Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Apple into the thought police, making them custodians of your freedom of expression. In other words, France has just approved a controversial bill that will force, under penalty of steep fines per occurrence, the removal of ides and opinions that predominantly left-wing tech company monitors determine to be “hate speech†on social media, a measure described as censorship by freedom-lovers.
Barrons (h/t Cleverson Y) The law obliges platforms and search engines to remove offensive content — incitement to hate or violence and racist or religious bigotry — within 24 hours or risk a fine of up to 1.25 million euros ($1.35 million).
