The number of Texans dying in nursing homes and assisted living facilities rose sharply Monday, with 92 more deaths related to COVID-19 reported for residents in such facilities over the past five days.
As of Monday, nearly 44 percent of all coronavirus deaths in Texas were linked to nursing homes and assisted living centers, according to the data. In all, 395 people had died in the facilities.
From April 29 to May 4, deaths in nursing homes and assisted living centers made up more than 63 percent of the reported deaths in Texas during that time, according to a Houston Chronicle analysis of state data.
