The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office arrested Raylin D. James and Joshua Q. Gerald, both 20-year-old privates, as suspects in the murder of Leroy Scott, also 20, who was found dead in a local creek. Law enforcement said the two soldiers were arrested without incident in Pierce County, 50 miles south of Seattle.
Scott was previously a soldier assigned to 555th Engineer Brigade on JBLM, but he separated from the Army in December 2019, according to I Corps spokesperson Lt. Col. Neil Penttila. James and Gerald were still assigned to the 555th Engineer Brigade at the time of their arrests.
