Last I heard, Mesa City Police had clarified that at this point (well, several days ago) it was not being investigated as a homicide. It could become one, of course, or MCP could conclude it was accidental (a euphemism for stupidity, in this case).
IMO, based on what I've read, is that it was homicide, though the most appropriate destination for her might be a state mental hospital.
