Sailors and Marines are knitting up a storm on the USS Bataan with supplies from Virginia Beach store

Deployed in the Persian Gulf, the crew of the USS Bataan is stuck on board while the coronavirus pandemic rages. It’s easy for stress to mount.

But some sailors and Marines on the amphibious assault ship are using yarn as a coping mechanism — whipping up hats, socks, baby blankets and more as they carry out their mission.

You may laugh at this activity but I used to teach severely emotionally disturbed H.S. kids at a residential facility and one year I had the kids from one of the units asked if they could knit.  So I traded up tight, potentially dangerous teens for the sound of knitting needles clicking instead of angry outbursts. :grouphug:
