During Monday’s live-streamed meeting of the Auburn, California city council, Mayor William Kirby announced his resignation due to the backlash he prompted when he posted a Tweet insinuating that many supporters of President Donald Trump are also members of the KKK.

I'm going to guess Doh! Mayor got a pointed lesson from the people of Auburn that Auburn is not Sacramento or Davis, let alone Berserkeley or SF.

Auburn mayor Dr. Bill Kirby, who decided Monday to step down after making social media posts comparing supporters of President Donald Trump to the Ku Klux Klan, was killed Saturday morning in a plane crash near the Auburn Municipal Airport, officials confirmed.

Kirby, a urologist and Auburn city councilman since 2009, was the pilot of the plane that crashed shortly after 11 a.m. A passenger in the plane suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

A Facebook post from Sacramento political consultant Jeff Raimundo carried a statement from the Kirby family confirming he was the victim. Photos provided by the Sheriff’s Office show flames in a field with scattered shrapnel near the airport.

Sad news! Sounds like he'd been significant in Auburn and Placer County for a long time. Hopefully the passenger with minor injuries will be able to shed some light on what happened.

Former Auburn Mayor Bill Kirby died Saturday morning in a small plane crash, family members aid.

Placer County sheriff’s deputies and Cal Fire responded to the crash shortly after 11 a.m. When crews arrived, they found that one passenger had been killed in the crash and the other had minor injuries. The survivor is now hospitalized.

This reminds me of some noname Democrat Congressman years ago who claimed that the Confederate Army and the KKK were all Republicans.
