Pope Airfield needs tens of millions in repairs for the paratroopers and spec ops units who use it

After an audit found Fort Bragg’s airfields in North Carolina to be among the Army’s worst maintained infrastructure, service leaders are promising more repairs to the neglected facilities which serve as a key waypoint for contingency response plans.

Pope Army Airfield, which rests on Fort Bragg and is owned by the Army, serves units belonging to Army Special Operations Command, Joint Special Operations Command and the 82nd Airborne Division, among others.

Pope Airfield is a staging area and launch site for the 82nd’s immediate response force, which deploys paratroopers aboard C-17 Globemasters anywhere in the world within 18 hours of notification. That capability was tested by the January deployment of the division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team to Kuwait during a period of heightened tension between Iran and the United States.

Pope's transition to Army management was directed by public law in keeping with the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission's recommendations to improve military efficiency and reduce redundancy.

And sometimes to nearby cities. Vallejo was devastated by the closure of Mare Island, and Oakland probably was hurt pretty badly by the closure of Alameda NAS.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

@rangerrebew

Uhhh,Pope is a US Air Force base,NOT a army base. The army at one time DID have cargo aircraft (the Cariobou),but the USAF whined to the politicians that airplanes belonged to THEM,so the politicians took the air planes away from the army,and the air force basically scrapped them because they weren't big enough to suit their needs.

IIRC,this was a comprormise made in the  Late 60's because the USAF was also pissing and moaning about the army having helcopters. The compromise was the army would get to keep helicopters,but would lose their fixed wing assets.
Anyone who isn't paranoid in 2021 just isn't thinking clearly!

Alameda was also a carrier base.  I was there until early 75, I believe it was, when my ship, USS Ranger, changed home ports to North Island (San Diego).
