While discussing the effects of COVID-19 on New York State, including a plateauing of total hospital admissions and a decline in net hospitalizations and ICU admissions, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said "the number is down because we brought the number down. God did not do that...."
At a press conference on Monday, the governor explained that the total number of hospitalizations in New York had started to plateau at 18,000. This doesn't mean the situation will not get worse but, currently, that number has been running at 18,000 and is flattening the curve.
Cuomo also mentioned a decline in other areas, such as ICU admissions. However, he stressed that these positive signs were there only because of the policies imposed and the behavior of the people.
