ANALYSIS: In a pandemic and economic crisis, Biden’s healer-in-chief pitch rings stronger

Joe Biden’s healer-in-chief pitch was once solely focused on providing an alternative to the chaos of Donald Trump's presidency and a vague notion of ending deep ideological divides, but it could find new weight and resonate with voters more now that the country is suffering through coronavirus deaths and mass economic disruption.
As Biden became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in the midst of a global pandemic, his highest-profile endorsers have stressed the former vice president’s empathy and ability to heal.
“Joe has the character and the experience to guide us through one of our darkest times and heal us through a long recovery,†former President Barack Obama said in his video endorsing his former running mate on Tuesday. Obama added that, in a moment of crisis, the country needs “leadership that’s guided by knowledge and experience, honesty and humility, empathy and grace.â€
Biden has long been able to connect with voters through his own personal tragedy and lived experiences.
