Liberal Groups Spend More Than $20 Million Attacking Trump, GOP on Coronavirus

Joe Schoffstall - April 7, 2020 2:00 PM

Liberal groups have dropped more than $20 million into advertisements attacking President Donald Trump and Republicans on coronavirus, a sign that the pandemic will play a central role in November's presidential election.

Democrats have used the outbreak in recent weeks to campaign in battleground states that could determine the presidential election, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Liberal advocacy groups and super PACs are airing ads slamming the president as slow in responding to the pandemic.

Coronavirus. This may be the first time in recorded history that a disease got infected by politicians, rather than the reverse. I guess turnabout is fair play.

I suppose it does no good to point out that if Republicans were using a national health crisis to agitate against a Democrat President, there would be no end to the shrieking and howling among the news media.

Instead, it would be genuinely helpful if Republicans were to pursue an all-out assault on the global pandemic of Leftist Funding. There exists today an enormous and powerful infrastructure composed not of dozens, but of thousands of left-wing activist groups, lobbying organizations, law firms and financial bundlers, all funded by an equally impressive network of socialist billionaires and "charitable" trusts.

For their part, Republicans have nothing like this to assist them, but rather a handful of disconnected organizations and wealthy supporters whose scope and reach are tiny specks compared with the huge bubbles of Progressive money. One way in which Republicans might fight back is by working to remove the tax exemptions for organizations that claim to be "charitable" or "non-profit" - 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) - organizations, but which in all obvious truth work to fund left-wing causes and disseminate propaganda though their friends in the news media.

Any successful effort to accomplish this goal would necessitate a retaking by Republicans of the House of Representatives, and holding the Senate as well, and even then, Democrats can be counted on to fight back with every tool they have. But until or unless Republicans wake up to the fact that they are outmanned and outgunned in every important respect by those who are committed to expanding government power, they will continue to lose, bit by bit, and year by year, as the malady of socialism slowly suffocates liberty.

They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Nicely put.
