You want the truth, Chris? Your own CNN was slamming Trump for instituting the China travel ban that Dr. Fauci stated was so important. Here is CNN's Catherine Shoichet on February 7, "The US coronavirus travel ban could backfire. Here's how."
Trump announced this travel ban on January 31st, and it went into effect on February 2nd.
Putting this event, which is important:
On
January 17th, Trump started screening passengers arriving from China on January 17th, at LAX, SFO, and JFK. Two more major international airports started that screening on
January 22nd.
On
January 20th, China acknowledged for the first time that human-human transmission had occurred.
IOW, Trump acted both before and very quickly after China's acknowledgement.
Just a note on what Italy did ... Italy did bar flights to and from China on January 31. Sounds great, right? Well, what Italy did not do was bar people who had come from China into other countries in the Schengen Zone. So, a person who flew from China to Paris, Frankfort, Hamburg, Amsterdam, and other major airports in the Schengen Zone would have been able to fly into Italy or go there by train. So Italy's prompt action was circumvented by other EU nations not taking similar action at the same time. That failure to act by EU nations is probably what hurt Italy, and probably also, indirectly, NYC.
