As U.S. Struggles with Coronavirus, Moscow Probes American Defenses

The incursions into the North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) air defense identification zone (ADIZ) demonstrated Moscow’s continued aggressive policy toward the United States and underscored the need to maintain U.S. military readiness, even in the midst of an historic pandemic.

As the Coronavirus crisis escalated earlier this month in the United States, Msian aircraft used two different avenues of approach toward Alaska. Each time, NORAD responded by sending F-22 Raptors to escort the Russian aircraft, with KC-135 Stratotankers and E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft airborne for support.
