Oh, c'mon, Joe.  You're better than that.

The statistics are white noise.  Not the people.  Yikes.   **nononono*

The point is, and the truth is, there is no "perspective" on the numbers until they are all in, so your pointing out the people die in other ways is not relevant.  We all KNOW that.  This thread is for news about the pandemic, not a defense of your minimizing its importance or the tragedy of it.
I am minimizing neither the people, the pandemic, nor the tragedy.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

After just 25 minutes of listing all the incredible things our government and private business have been doing since yesterday, Seema Verma the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services sends her condolences to the families of the dead.  President Trump should be doing that, not because this is all his fault, but because it would hopefully mean something to the grieving.

I didn't mean to be, and wasn't cruel.

Thanks for your efforts to make peace, Cyber.  I'm only going to post news about the pandemic here, nothing more.

Sorry that I did something else.  I'll let it go, and probably put Joe on temporary Ignore.  He's a good guy, and I pray didn't mean what he said.

World Health Organization insists coronavirus not an airborne disease as experts raise possibility

by Jerry Dunleavy   | March 30, 2020 05:44 PM

The World Health Organization doubled down on its claim that the COVID-19 virus is not transmittable by air even as some experts suggest it is possible and as Western officials recommend that doctors and nurses take precautions.

“FACT: #COVID19 is NOT airborne,” WHO declared in a Saturday fact-check tweet. "The #coronavirus is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks.”

But a study in the United States suggests otherwise. Carried out by more than a dozen health experts working with the National Institute for Health’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories, the study released this month found "aerosol … transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is plausible, since the virus can remain viable and infectious in aerosols for hours.”

Read more at:  https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/world-health-organization-insists-coronavirus-not-an-airborne-disease-as-experts-raise-possibility

So, up-to-date news, this is actually pretty important AND, I'm going to think it can be airborne. I may be wrong, I'm no scientist or doctor.

My guess is that the market rose today because of the FDA's endorsement of the anti-malaria drug for doctors to use as they determine necessary.

The exploding numbers of infected (in NYC and elsewhere) will probably push the market back down as the week progresses.

That quote from the article is silly.  No, the virus isn't "airborne," but it's the droplets carrying the virus that are airborne.  There's no functional difference.

I noticed this presser was outside.  I think the President will be steering away from pressers in the press room, to avoid giving reporters TV face time.

There's a list of reasons why WHO sucks, not the least of which is their persistent refusal to recognize Taiwan's observations early in the crisis.  That probably cost thousands of lives, world wide.

Great idea ... but unfortunately they still get face time when they ask a question.  I think it's the beautiful 70 degree day we have here (albeit quite windy)  happy77

Correction:  They get "voice time," not "face time."  The successful star of The Apprentice knows this instinctively.  The image is the medium, and in this medium, the reporters are disembodied voices.  This is as it should be, as a reminder to all Freshman J-School students:  "Report the news, don't BE the news."  It's a lesson that gets forgotten the moment they pick up the sheepskin.

Wow:

CBS News was caught airing footage from an Italian hospital, claiming it was in New York City

Italian hospitals failed the stress test of this virus

They want you to think this happened here

I wonder why?

Not only is CBS dishonest, they think so little of their viewers, that they didn't think they would get caught.

This needs to go viral.  CBS? Figured they would have learned their lesson after the Dan Rather fiasco.

I got it forwarded to about 25 of my good contacts.  I challenge everyone else to do the same.

But so far, the numbers of new cases in New York is actually down a hair, which is to be expected given that testing from after the lockdown orders is starting to work its way into the system.

Who knows...... this may just be the tip of the iceberg.  No telling how much distortion and lying is being perpetuated by the MSM.
