Peter Sellers on steroids? You just sold me on this show @sneakypete

Btw, every December Hulu runs a special for new subscribers. $1.99 a month for a year. Best Buy ever, I did this last December, and I’m happy with Hulu even though I watch Netflix more.

@Gefn

Hulu,Netflix,and Amazon Prime are my primary rental "go to" channels.

I know this is going to make the heads of "the righteous" explode,but I also watch a LOT of PBS. NOBODY does historical drama better than PBS,NOBODY!

It just occurred to me the other day that now that I have access to literally thousands of channels,both free and fee-based,and not a single damn one of them is a porn channel.

If that ain't proof a man is getting old,I don't know what is.

ROFL!

Happened to have 'stumbled' onto LILYHAMMER, on Netflix.

It's a dark comedy about a fixer for the New York City mob who gets double crossed by his boss and turn's State's evidence and chooses to go to Norway for a new beginning.

Absolutely hilarious, because it actually slapstick 'Sopranos'.

Woke up this morning and started laughing while still in bed...soon as I thought of him.

I like PBS. I grew up watching Sesame Street and Fred Rogers, and I still watch. I like “Antiques Roadshow” and they do have good dramas on Sunday night. I just saw a series on mental illness last week which was really good.

@Gefn

I started watching PBS waaaay back in the 60's,when the tv viewing schedules were pretty damn slim,and all the tv's were still in black and white. Mostly out of boredom and having nothing else to watch or do.

I would tune in and there would be a program starting about truly boring crap like "The sex live on the Argentinian Serial Killer Butterfly (or some such mind-numbingly boring title),and damned if it wouldn't pull me in within 15 minutes and make me wonder why I never thought it wouldn't be interesting.

Then I discovered things like Masterpiece Theater,and was hooked.

Flat out,you see VERY interesting things on your local PBS station that you will NEVER see anywhere else. For this alone,it earns every tax-payer dollar it costs.

ANYBODY that can watch a series like MI-5,Danger UXB,Poldark,Unforgotten,Victoria,Ripper Street,Wolf Hall,Les Misérables (the drama,NOT the freaking musical!),Prime Suspect,with Helen Mirren!,Wallander,etc,etc,etc, and can then tell you it is boring and not worth the taxpayer money is either a fool or a liar.

 Quite possibly both.

The first two “Masterpiece Theatres” I can recall seeing would be “upstairs downstairs” and “I Claudius”

It was “I Claudius” that made me love history. So much so I minored in it.

@Gefn

BTW,ever watched the British version of "A Tale of Two Cities"?  I watched this the first time before I had even heard of PBS. Somehow or another,I managed to tune in to Masterpiece Theater back when it was being broadcast on CBS,ABC,or NBC,I don't remember which,when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. This was responsible for me getting my first library card so I could read the book to see if I had missed anything

Been a history freak ever since.

Not to mention a MAJOR fan of Masterpiece Theater. There just ain't nothing broadcast anywhere that is any better when it comes to production,writing,or acting.

Even saw the Masterpiece theater production with Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean doing "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" LIVE from a stage in NYC sometime in the mid to late 50's. That was some impressive stuff for a little kid!

You KNOW this stuff was good when it was broadcast in black and white all those years ago,and I can STILL close my eyes and picture some of the scenes.

Chemo will make you "DUM" dumb.  I used to half-joke that it was a good thing my truck had the system (forgot what it is named AS I was getting ready to type it!). Ok,it just popped back into my head. On Star. I used to tell people it was a good thing my truck had On Star so I could get back home if I forgot how to get there.

@sneakypete

You need one of these. I'd send you mine, but it was a gift from a co-worker friend and means a lot to me.

@AllThatJazzZ

YOWZA! Where can I buy one of those things?

I posted a thread about it in SPORTS, early this morning .

It's not going to be a series, but a movie.  And young 'Tony' looks exactly like his father.

...coming in October, this year.

I dug up the original "The Stand" miniseries from 1994.
Watched the first two parts Sat/Sun, and will watch the last two next weekend.

It seems ok, although I would have preferred less of the supernatural theme.
But it's Steven King, and I guess with him, that's what you get.
(I was never interested in his books).

Like @roamer_1 , I was finding a lot of breast cancer mugs. I was thinking that maybe my friend bought mine at a Hallmark shop. Could be worth a trip to one in your area.

THat mug is spot-on, but by the time I finally get the darned site to accept it, I can't remember what I typed. :shrug:

The whole Mother Abigail vs Randall Flagg thing was the essence of spiritual warfare, only with apocalyptic and fleshly undertones. 'Supernatural' was part and parcel of the story, good vs evil.

I just got a email notification that Brit Box is now airing all three seasons of "Luther".

You just GOTTA see Alice to believe her.

I STRONGLY recommend this series to everyone.

Luther is a homicide detective with the British Police,and he meets Alice when her parents are discovered to have been brutally murdered.

Idris Elba's best role, IMHO.   And "Alice" was incredible in it.  Watched it a couple of years ago when it was available on NETFLIX.

I give it THREE popcorns.

It seems we have similar tastes in viewing. You are going to LOVE Alice,although you will NOT want "one just like her".
