All the prominent voices saying this state of affairs could last three, four or more months are only revealing their total ignorance if the way life works for most of us out here.

HELL YEAH.

Goldman's forecast of 10% growth in the second half does not seem realistic following a 24% decline in Q2.  Virtually everyone will be short on cash, many will be unemployed, and entrepreneurs will not be eager to risk everything under threat of shutdown.  It will take a long time to rebuild the wealth that is being destroyed on a daily basis.

We are now on day 7 of the 15 day social distancing with some cities shutting down completely.  After the 15 days they should know whether or not this social distancing has been effective.  If it has been, then, slowly, let businesses return.  Let them open up at 50% capacity for another 15 day with implemented distancing and very meticulous cleaning practices; if after that period of time things still appear to be contained, then open them back up to capacity with same cleaning guidelines.  That extra cleaning, what can it hurt anyways??  And for heaven's sake everybody needs to carry hand sanitizer if they can't wash their hands ... but sanitize and wash your darn hands -- something that people should have been doing all along!

Those more vulnerable, should stay put for another 15 days -- still practicing social distancing.

Continue to halt international travel into the U.S., and keep our borders shutdown.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I don't believe the massive over-reaction, shutdown, etc. is the correct way to address this issue.  The end result is going to be far worse on America and on Americans than the actual virus would be.  Driving up the national debt to zillions, in order to hand out free $$$ willy nilly is also not the way to go (and I could definitely use the cash).   But we all know that Trump has never been particularly concerned with fiscal conservatism or debt-related policies.

That's right.
Not to mention that it's chickenshit.
And a gigantic waste.

I’ve been careful to pay attention to the conservatives who have more information than I am privy to, and especially to the health care professionals who are in the trenches trying to fight this invisible enemy.

I completely oppose the checks for all idiocy.......in fact I can’t think of anything worse that could be done...... but the precautions being taken to save lives are I think in the long run, prudent.

And if you would have told me even a few weeks ago that I would be using the words Trump and prudent in the same sentence I would have fainted dead away.  happy77
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

All of this over a mere 347 deaths, mostly elderly with underlying/other health issues.... when there were 20,000 regular flu deaths as of March 6.  (https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/03/06/update-influenza-deaths-now-total-20000-including-elevated-number-of-136-children/

It's insanity to the nth, running amuck.   And the radical left deep state is gleeful.

@XenaLee m

Of course they are. So are the RINO's. Making Trump look bad using this virus as a tool is the ONLY chance they have of defeating him in the upcoming election.

What will be the justification be for not going to these same extreme lengths during every flu season.

@skeeter

That's easy. There will be a Dim president and no presidential election coming up for another 4 years. By then the typical voter will have forgotten all about this.

Irrelevant response (and wrong and I can prove it but That's a sidetrack) I will repeat, if there is nothing to this, why did conservatives like Ted Cruz self-quarantine? Why is almost every country taking the same measures?

@TomSea

I am just GUESSING,but my guess is "because he is already sick,bordering on being elderly,and doesn't want to expose himself to any other illnesses that might make it worse."

 That all depends of if you think destroying the American economy and industry while making the citizens/subjects dependent on the government for EVERYTHING is a good thing or a bad thing.

I wonder if that was a part of the Chinese plan when they developed this virus,or just a happy (for them) coincidence?

There's a balance that must be found and applied here.  Caution and precautions, but at the same time, sane and realistic fiscal policy.  All I'm seeing is panic, emotion and fear-based reactions.   Over just 347 deaths.

What would the people here that say what is being done is wrong, what should we be doing then?  Ideas?  So other countries doing similar things are wrong as well?  I want this to end soon...this is costing me money as I'm sure it is everyone here.

Just like they forgot all about the H1N1 & swine flu outbreak during Bathhouse Barry's presidency.

Swine flu        = 150,000 deaths worldwide
CoronaVirus    =  13,672 deaths so far

See the difference?   Funny how the leftist media were unconcerned back then vs. now.

Making citizens dependent on government is right up the leftists alley. It is NOT a good thing.

More and more I believe that this Chinese virus was bio-engineered in order to ensure that Trump would never win re-election and put Chinese/Joe in office!

That's right. And I've got my money where my mouth is. It's here. My mom and sis are sequestered, and my elder son and his wife are working at the hospital. I got skin in this game.

By the same token, IT'S HERE. In a matter of days it has stretched to TimbuckFour Montana.
All y'all ain't stopping a damn thing.

And in the mean time, folks that matter keep on goin. Strappin on their boots and heading out. Truckers, Linemen, Mechanics, County Workers, Road Crews, Farmers, Ranchers, soldiers, LEOs, Firemen... All them thankless bastards that walk out in it regardless.

All y'all are lucky there's a harder breed out there to keep your shit runnin the whole damn while.

You ain't stopping a dang thing. It is gonna roll through, like it will.
Quarantine does nothing if one does not remove every vector, and in cases where folks are confined at home, the introduction of one vector will infect the whole house.

Shutting the whole country down is a waste of time, and money. Sequester the folks that are at risk and immunize the herd.
