San Francisco's mayor has announced an unprecedented three week lockdown that will begin on Tuesday at midnight and which bans anyone from leaving their home for anything other than doctor's visits or trips to the supermarket.

In addition to the lockdown in city parameters, six counties in the Bay Area are being told to 'shelter in place'.

The lockdown is the strictest action to be taken in America. Anyone who breaks it faces legal repercussions.

It will last until April 7. Mayor London Breed called it a 'defining moment' on Monday morning.

'This is going to be a defining moment for our city.

'We all have a responsibility to do our part to protect our neighbors and slow the spread of this virus by staying at home unless it is absolutely essential to go outside,' she said.

President Trump has stopped short of a national shutdown, much to the criticism of governors and mayors who are calling on him to take federal action to block the spread.

At a White House briefing on Monday afternoon, he urged all Americans not to gather in groups of 10 or more and told people not to go to restaurants, bars or food courts but did not issue a shut down.

New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have taken a tri-state approach to closures, with a shut down of closing bars and restaurants at 8pm on Monday night for 'as long as necessary' along with casinos, gyms and movie theaters.

New Jersey has also launched a statewide 'curfew' between the hours of 8pm and 5am for all 'non essential travel' but it is unclear what that is or what will happen to anyone who does not follow the rules.

Six Bay Area counties announced a virtual public lockdown in the face of the rapidly expanding coronavirus pandemic aimed at slowing transmission of the deadly COVID-19 respiratory disease.

Health officers for Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin and the city of Berkeley, which has its own independent public health authority, announced the new “shelter in place” restrictions Monday amid a head-spinning flurry of new limits on public gatherings across the state and country.

“Temporarily changing our routine is absolutely necessary to slow the spread of this pandemic,” said Dr. Sara Cody, Santa Clara County Public Health Officer. “The Health Officers from the largest jurisdictions in the San Francisco Bay Area are united and we are taking this step together to offer the best protection to our respective communities.”

The announcement involves a legal order from the health officers of those counties directing their respective residents to shelter at home for three weeks beginning at midnight March 17. The order limits activity, travel and business functions to only the most essential needs. The order will be in place until April 7 and could be amended to end later or sooner, San Francisco Mayor London Breed said Monday.

IMO, this is hysterical over-reaction! I'm not saying such an order could never be appropriate, only that it is very (if not extremely) disproportional to the handful of known Covid-19 cases in Santa Clara County.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

@skeeter

I agree. Personally they’ve turned the possibility of catching a flu into a sure fire financial crisis.

I’m in Santa Cruz now, and am trying to expedite our new home closure to beat the closing of the recorders office here. Otherwise the wife and I will be quite literally homeless.

I believe the top experts have surveyed actions in China, So. Korea, Italy etc and are recommending the best options they know of, to minimize deaths.

When they use the term "flatten the curve," I think they mean reduce the spread. Apparently "shelter-in-place" is how that is best accomplished.
