The problem with something like this is, once people start getting it, it’s going to  be hard to take it away even after the coronavirus scare is over

Gabbard proposed $1000 per month.  This is a prelude to universal basic income.

How do we pay for that Tulsi?  Keep the printing presses going?

If Mitt's wrong, I guarantee you, others are looking at it because some people have to pay for mortgages and the like, what a problem.

The House bill sets up a complicated relief system that relies on paid sick leave & refundable tax credits.

That won’t move quickly enough & puts undue pressure on businesses to lay off workers.

We don’t want to see layoffs—we need cash in the hands of affected families.

Check the video at link, Dr. Oz is on the Fox panel.

So, just reiterating, Mitt and Tulsi are NOT the only ones talking about this, these Senators too, will have constituencies bugging them about it.

How is it paid for? I have no idea.

More good stuff at Senator Cotton's twitter.

Obviously, a lot of people are going to get bailed out in this, maybe whole countries, will the financial structure just collapse? That's one of the biggest drawback of this pandemic.

So, it's not just John Q. Public, there will surely be lots of financial aid, who knows? Maybe food or other distributions in all of this.

Ehich was proposed decades ago by respected libertarians/conservatives Milton Friedman and Charles Murray.

Let's think about this logically.  IF we just take a look at social security there isn't enough money to even give seniors collecting SS a 2% raise which is far, far less than $1,000 and far less of a population.

We are trillions in debt, billions have just be approved to fight this virus and add another $1,000 to every adult (209,128,094) would equate to appx. $209,128,094,000.00!

Added to that most people's rent or mortgage these days is above $1,000.  So then we're looking at everyone on food stamps?

Socialism to follow??

What is needed is an effective vaccine that works and people able to go back to their jobs.

We simply don't have the funds to bail out the economy from a self-imposed shutdown.  People have to ride this out, one way or another.

Sounds like something Herbert Hoover might have said.

Does it really?  Hoover increased the federal budget by 60% and raised taxes to pay for it.  Everything we're told about Hoover is a myth.  Actually he was probably the most qualified candidate to be nominated for president in the 20th century ... his work in Belgium was nothing short of heroic.

What is certain is he was replaced by an incompetent windbag who flattened the economy and gave eastern europe to communists.  I blame the voters for that, and not Hoover.

Why not, half of the republicans in the House voted for that Corona bumbling bill that gave everything else the democrats wanted...

This!

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

I gotta admit, giving $1,000 to every American is a heck of a lot cheaper than what the Fed has already done.  Put me down for this.  I would much rather see everyone get some help to keep doing what they do, instead of bailing out Goldman Sachs.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

That was brave.  Good job!  I agree.

This all went out the window once the Fed crunk up the printing presses and started handing out obscene amounts of cash to all the banks and fat cat investment firms - without interest.

I realized the everybody means everybody.  Whether they work, or don't.  Whether or not they have even been affected by COVID 19.  Whether they have more money than they know what to do with or not.

No, changed mind.

This is a liberal proposal.

How is this not promoting communism by stealing from the productive and giving to the non-productive?

Why stop at $1000?  Why not $10,000?  $100,000?

The responsible American taxpayer has bent over and taken this without vaseline for so long, all the feeling there is lost.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

I don't like it either, @Chosen Daughter.

Nor do I.  But if I had to choose between this, and what the Fed has already done, I choose this.  $300 billion directly into the economy v. $1.5 trillion to banks?  I'll take the cheaper option.

I prefer Rand Paul's proposal about suspending federal taxes and eliminating penalties and fees.

If no stores, venues, bars, restaurants, etc. are open, what is $1k going to do to "stimulate" the economy?

Throwing our allegiances to political parties in the long run gave away our liberty.
