Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said Friday that a temporary suspension of student debt payments is part of a proposed economic stimulus package that the Trump administration is considering to help deal with the economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis.

Mnuchin said in an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that student debt relief is one of dozens of proposals that will be submitted to President Donald Trump as part of the relief package.

“I can tell you that’s on our list of 50 different items we’re bringing to the president for a decision. That will be something we’re looking at,” Mnuchin told CNBC’s Jim Cramer, who asked whether the administration is considering suspending debt payments for three months.

“We have lots of authorities,” Mnuchin added.

What for?  Young people get over this quickly.  This sounds like a lead up to Socialism.  How long?  One month payment, OK.

I’m wondering the same myself.
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

It's not really the students' votes and approval he needs.
It's that of their parents...

What students have died as a result of this disease?  Any?

No, no, no, and hell no!

Better idea - get the federal government the hell out of the student loan business.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Unbelievable.  No specifics.  Just that they are suspending interest payments for some period of time.  They were already allowed to suspend their payments, but interest would continue.  Why don't they make it depending on hardship because of Coronavirus?  Only for a period of time to recover.  No, this is bordering on Socialism unless it for a specific time limit.  Otherwise it just allows people not to pay their debt.
