Dublin cancels St Patrick's Day parade
By Zack Budryk - 03/09/20 12:16 PM EDT

Dublin has cancelled its St. Patrick’s Day parade amid concerns over the spread of the coronavirus, which has been diagnosed in 21 Irish patients thus far.

The cancellation of the parade on March 17th, the largest in Ireland, comes the same day two more cases were confirmed in the country, the BBC reported, citing Irish broadcaster RTÉ.

Both cases were community-transmitted rather than people who had returned from high-risk areas abroad, and one of them was seriously ill, according to BBC.

Five other people were diagnosed in Northern Ireland Sunday, bringing the total number of cases there to 12.

Well, probably prevented about a half million hangovers.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

It sounds like all major events in the coming months will likely be canceled.

The Indian Wells Tennis tournament has been canceled. The French Open? Wimbledon? US Open?

I'm guessing the Olympics will go on but without spectators. Only broadcast on television.

The NBA is talking about it.
Austin cancelled its hugely successful SXSW festival this year.
the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo is still going on, though.

Two of my (adult) kids will be in Dublin on St. Patrick's Day.

Pretty sure they weren't planning to go to the Parade, though.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

I hope this is all over by June.  Our Alaska vacation is already booked.

A tour of the Guinness brewery is mandatory.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

I can’t drink Guinness without reading James Joyce. Fortunately I do like both.

Mr. ML just heard that some cruise lines are offering extra perks for keeping your reservations.

If this thing is in the past but people are still canceling, we may upgrade to a luxury cabin for free!  happy77

We do have until June, though, and we’ll definitely play it safe if things are still problematic.
