Islam conquered the Holy Land around mid 7th century while planning to conquer Europe.
Nationalism and patriotism had nothing to do w/preventing their European invasion,
as it was the Holy Roman Empire directed by the Vatican that overturned this plan over
many centuries. Three nations and dates are pivotal:
* Charles Martel, a Frankish Prince crushed a Muslim invasion of Burgundy at Tours
in 732, permanently halting the advance of Islam into Northern Europe.
* Spanish Rulers, Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon destroyed the Muslims
at Grenada in 1492 completing the reconquista of Roman Hispania for Catholicism.
* In 1683, John Sobieski of Poland broke the Turkish Siege of Vienna, under
Vizier Mustafa; permanently driving the Muslims out of eastern Europe.
These were some of the Great Religious Wars down through history.
