What made ToS a place of renown in its heyday was its ability to dissect news and prove it. There were enough members across the US to provide eye witness. There was enough expertise in various venues to speak with authority and provide relevant material.

I prefer that critical look, which *is here*, but often tamped down by those desiring an echo chamber, and others who just like throwing poo.

I prefer a critical look at 'our side' as being more important than being critical of the other - self policing used to be a feature in conservative circles. And looking at our own with a jaundiced eye provides metering (or rather, used to) that liberals lacked.

That is no longer the case - Neither in right-side journalism, nor in associated commentary.
And in that, where MSM could not be trusted, now nothing can be trusted.

^^^^^THIS!!^^^^^
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

TOS made the fatal mistake of thinking they should be a political force, as BobJ wanted it to be.  When they became partisan and started purging Members for not toeing the Party line, they became the dreaded Echo Chamber.  We skimmed the creme of that crop here at TBR in the 2016 Great FReeper Migration.  Now, with all our warts, we're the place to debate!

TBR is obviously not a place for the 'Weary Kind'

@musiclady

One poster's idea of "bullying" is another poster's idea of "...okay, enough of this sh*t!"

We've given up long ago trying to embarrass certain members into waking-up about the many virtues of Donald J. Trump, as POTUS.

Fact is, the most prolific posters at this time, are rabid haters of the man.   They 'hide' behind their biblical faith and/or principles and simply continue to discount 3 Plus years of evidence suggesting that he's literally, God's gift to America.

At this point, we're not looking for, "Gee guys, I'm sorry I was so wrong about him", etc..

When out here in the real world, Pro-Trumpers are being physically assaulted, we sure don't need to be treated this way in T-effing BR.

@Cyber Liberty  @mystery-ak    Please just keep this in mind when you respond to the "abuse" button.  Thank you.

Well now........... that was quite the tirade........ even for you, @DCPatriot .

As for that "bullying" stuff....... there is no other way to describe what Arne does.  He's a master bullyer.

Problem is that he doesn't know enough about me to not try his schtick with me.  When I was in elementary school........ a wee lass, but scrappy....... I used to beat up the bullies on the playground, and occasionally in the neighborhood.

60+ years later, I still don't like it when somebody tries to belittle or bully me into agreeing with them.  It NEVER works.

But I do understand that if one wants the entire forum to march in lockstep with the President, one is highly offended by those who dare think independently and don't believe all the hype about how he's some sort of savior of mankind and the Republic.

Just keep in mind that, as long as mystery is in charge, nobody's getting canned because of what they believe, think, or post, as long as they are respectful of the rules and in general exhibit good behavior.

Bullying is never good behavior.

We got a whole lot of excellent posters from that migration.

(And witnessed a whole lot of whining from the echo chamber crowd when they came).

We have a restaurant in town that on Sunday's serves bottomless mimosas for $20.

Amen to that! Let's all try to remember how hard Mystery has worked to make this a welcoming place for a range of views.

Ah.... the good ole days (Sunday Brunch Mimosas).

I confess... I can't wait for Spring.   Will be stocking up on the bubbly and OJ for that celebration.

Apparently, it's the ruination of a good bottle of champagne.

For my Mimosas, I use cheap-ass California Sparkling White, with Sunny-D-Lite.  No point in ruining good bubbly.
