   Sasse Debunks Democratic and Media Lies about His Born-Alive Bill

On the Senate floor this afternoon, Senator Ben Sasse (R., Neb.) set the record straight about his legislation, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which the Senate will vote on later today.

Before Sasse spoke, Democratic senator Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) came to the floor to propose a Medicaid expansion supported by Democrats, insisting that Republicans were pushing “anti-abortion” legislation while refusing to accept any measures that would help women in need.

Sasse, the lead sponsor of the born-alive bill — which does not limit abortion access but rather requires doctors to provide standard medical care to newborn infants who survive abortion procedures — responded to Durbin on the floor, saying that the Democrat had “obscured” the debate by claiming that it is over “funding maternal health or having anti-abortion legislation.”

I read it in an article from the Blaze, excellent.... some Democrats, that one out of the Northwest, Patti Murray said, "well we already have laws against infanticide".... but there are rebuttals to this, one by Sasse said, in about half the states, if a Doctor allows the surviving fetus to die there are NO CRIMINAL PENALTIES!

She also claimed it was an effort to 'take control of women's bodies.' These are born babies, not babies in the womb.

"So if infanticide is already illegal in this country, then why are we here? Why are my Senate Republican colleagues pushing so hard for this bill?" Hirono asked. "And the answer is simple: This bill is the latest in a decadeslong effort by Republicans aiming to take control of women's bodies and prevent us from exercising our constitutional right to make personal decisions which include abortion in this country."

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) — who was chairing the hearing and is sponsoring the bill in question — countered Hirono's remarks assertions about the alleged redundancy of the legislation.

"Infanticide is indeed illegal in the U.S., and yet in half of the states, there is no criminalization of walking away from the baby and allowing it to die by exposure," Sasse said. "There's an active-passive distinction and a state-federal distinction which are both pretty fundamental."
