The United States will sign a peace deal with the Taliban by the end of February, the State Department and Secretary Pompeo announced Friday afternoon.

“U.S. negotiators in Doha have come to an understanding with the Taliban on a significant and nationwide reduction in violence across Afghanistan,” Pompeo’s statement accompanying the announcement reads. “Upon a successful implementation of this understanding, signing of the U.S.-Taliban agreement is expected to move forward. We are preparing for the signing to take place on February 29.”

   Vietnam v. 2.0.

If the will's not there (Politically) to win the damn thing (which you could have done, and did, 20 years ago) then get the hell out before we lose more lives.

San Antonio just buried another Army SGT. this morning.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Interesting that we can sign a "peace treaty" with a group that is and will forever will be hell bent on our destruction and the destruction of everything we stand for.

A piece of paper will mean nothing to them except that we'll give them a big playground to plot the next 9/11 from.  A return to burying radios and television sets and mass executions via AK-47's in the local soccer stadiums.

What the Taliban is engaging in is called Taqiyya.

Well, you don't have any other options when you've gotten yourself into a mess, and you just aren't willing to do what is necessary to win. Namely wipe the bastards out and assign a special assassination unit to track down and kill any new ones that pop up,regardless of who they are or where they are found.

If you aren't willing to fight to win,you should never get in a fight in the first place. I was a nobody nothing special NCO in the army, and even *I* understand this,so WTH were the Generals, and WHY weren't several of the prominent ones resigning and holding press conferences to explain WHY they felt like they had no other choice?

The same mistakes we made in Vietnam and the same "fight to a draw" squishyness from Korea resonate today in what we're about to do in Afghanistan.

We had/have choices on how to conduct war against the enemy.  There's just no spine in DC to conduct it the way it needs to be done.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
The problem is, is that the problem is not Afghanistan.

It's Pakistan.

If and until we are willing to deal with that, we can be there another 100 years and the result will be the same.
The Republic is lost.

Exactly!  If we could have chased Bin laden into Pakistan after Tora Bora we'd have ended this long long ago.  But the ISI protect the Taliban when they winter in the Waziristan  province.  Even when my dad was stationed in Pakistan in the USAF form 63-65 he said that the Pack army wouldn't go into Waziristan because they'd get their asses handed to them.

The ONE universal truth in this whole mess is below.

"ISLAM declared war on all non-Muslims while Mohammed was still alive. That war will never end until Islam is the only religion all over the world."

THEY declared war on US before any of us were even born.

How have we been dealing with this? We have been trying to fight them to a draw and make them quit. How freaking foolish is THAT. Islam is a "Religion of Conquest",and they will keep quitting the fight for a couple of generations in order to be able to breed replacement Jihadists, and then start all over again for as long as we allow them to do this.

What MUST be done, but probably won't be done in todays touchy-feely world,is to start by destroying EVERY mosque in the west, and deporting ALL Muslims that are not US citizens willing to condemn Mohammed in pubic. If they have any property, seize it,sell it,and send them the money left over after the listing and selling expenses and warn them that if they ever come back without permissions we will kill them where and when we find them.

If that doesn't solve the problem, and I really think it won't,we need to get together with nations like GB and pretty much wipe out there home countries by destroying every mosque there, and killing every known religious leader as we find them, where we find them. No arrests,no courts, just death. Death is what they deal,so let's give it to them.

AND.....,it's not gonna happen because the typical westerner of today is "touchy-feely".  They would rather see freedom and America destroyed than fight back in a way that would end this threat to world peace and individual freedoms forever.
