As a great grandparent, observing three generations (plus my personal experiences in that transition), one of the chief afflictions of puberty is the impression of omniscience. For anyone in those hormonal throes, the parents tend to be remarkably ignorant, only acquiring intelligence as the child approached their 30s, if then.
But then, we were purt'near all bulletproof know-it-alls at one time...it's a rite of passage for the survivors.
