6-year-old Faye Swetlik found dead after disappearing from front yard in Cayce, S.C.

CAYCE, S.C. (WIS) - Police just shared the tragic news that 6-year-old Faye Swetlik was found dead Thursday, not far from where she was last seen.



Faye disappeared from the front yard of her Cayce, South Carolina home while she was playing outside after school Monday.

Her family reported her missing at 5 p.m., saying they had last seen her at 3:45 p.m.

Thursday, Faye’s body was found somewhere in her neighborhood. Officers have launched a homicide investigation related to her death, but did not share how she died.

Police also said the body of a deceased man was found near Faye’s body and an investigation has started in that case. They did not, however, directly relate the cases at this time.

There is no danger to the community, police said. No arrests have been made at this time.

Sad story.  But as days pass, the possibility of a good outcome becomes more and more remote.

Some odd things about this tragedy, including no Amber Alert.  I'm wondering why.  Did the authorities already have someone in mind -- a family member, neighbor or friend?

Faye Swetlik's cause of death was asphyxiation, neighbor abducted and killed her, investigators say

Faye Swetlik, the 6-year-old girl who was found dead last Thursday in Cayce, S.C., after disappearing from her front yard three days earlier, was killed by her neighbor who acted as the "sole perpetrator," investigators said Tuesday.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said the autopsy showed Swetlik's death was a homicide and the cause of her death was asphyxiation.

The girl's body turned up in a wooded area in her neighborhood.

Within minutes of finding her body, investigators said they found the neighbor, 30-year-old Coty Taylor, dead inside his home.

Cayce Department of Public Safety Director Byron Snellgrove said the two cases were linked.

I would not be so quick as to assume that Coty Taylor killed the girl. I think I'd first want to find out if they had a common killer.
