XFL 2.0 prepares for kickoff

A reboot of one of America's most infamous sports leagues kicks off this weekend, with billionaire wrestling mogul Vince McMahon betting once more that football fans are hungry for more football.

What they're saying: Whereas the old XFL leaned on gimmicks and stunts when it first launched (and failed) 19 years ago, the new XFL is presenting itself as a league focused entirely on quality of play and the on-field product.

"Aside from the name, there is nothing in common that we will have with the league in 2001," commissioner Oliver Luck told NYT.

The old XFL "was a lot of fun ... but it wasn't presented on television as real football," said Tom Luginbill, who coached one of the original teams and will broadcast games for ESPN. Now, it's "football and football only," he said. "There's no gimmicks."

Zero, actually. They have a no-felons policy, and turned down Johnny Manziel because of his domestic violence conviction. They also have a no-kneeling policy during the anthem, if you're wondering.

I don't know, guys.  I'm gonna check out a game or two.   Different rules from the NFL.  Might actually be fun.

   @sneakypete I think the LFL is defunct now or renamed the Lesbian Football League, it's just not the same. You can still catch some Lingerie games from the last 4 years on YouTube, though.  Those women get pissed often and are usually fighting leading to many wardrobe malfunctions.

So I'm watching the XFL and I have to ask:  Is it just me or does it seem like the play-by-play guys are yapping even more than their NFL counterparts would?  Ok, so I know this is new and there are differences between the XFL and the NFL which maybe they have to explain, but I wish these guys would shut up for at least a minute.
