In response to J. Lo’s Stripper Routine Was Not ‘Empowering’

I think Kyle was exactly right in his post this morning criticizing last night’s Super Bowl halftime show, put on by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. “It was pure self-objectification, flaunting feminine sexual appeal for the purpose of titillation,” as he put it. I had the same thought; we talk a lot about women’s empowerment these days, and about how men shouldn’t treat women as sexual objects. That’s all well and good, of course, but must we fix that problem that by glorifying women who present themselves as sexual objects? That’s really not much more empowering than when men do the same thing to us.

But I had another thought about last night’s halftime show, too. What about all the kids who must have been watching? According to the Hollywood Reporter, nearly 100 million people watched the game last night, many of whom were children, all of whom were subjected to gyrating, partially clothed women and an especially sexualized performance from J-Lo using a stripper pole.

When I remarked on Twitter yesterday evening about how this performance wasn’t a great choice for a game that many children watch, plenty of people offered some kind of rebuttal in the form of, “Why can’t parents just make their kids leave the room?” Perhaps they shouldn’t have to.

I thought it was disgusting.  The rope that mimicked a snake.  The stripper pole.   I called it sexerbowl.  Kids shouldn't be watching that.  Pretty soon our daughters and granddaughters will be mimicking performers who's act is nothing short of the local strip club.

That's exactly right too...

It really was something that anyone could find in a strip joint.  How disgusting.  Sex sells these days.  I thought it looked like a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah act.

Christians react:

Super Bowl halftime show panned as 'softcore porn,' 'horrible embarrassment'

The Super Bowl halftime show is being panned for its explicit content.

Super Bowl LIV, which was held in Miami this year, featured Latin pop artists Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Featuring several of their most well-known songs from over the years, the artists danced with lots of hip-shaking and were at points barely clothed around stripper poles.

Commenting on his Facebook page Sunday, evangelist Franklin Graham noted that he did not expect the world to act like the church, but the nation nevertheless should have the decency to protect children during prime time television.

I’m sick of seeing people act like the people objecting to the show are a bunch of Bible thumping prudes. There is a place for this in an all adult venue, not in a stadium and televised show where so many children were present. The families in the stadium couldn’t send their kids out of the room.

Comparing this to Elvis and the Beatles is a load of crap.  The boundaries keep getting moved further out each year. I’m sick of it. If you want to let your freak flag fly do it where children can’t see it.

That's right... And I didn't bother this year, but no doubt it was packed full of satanic/occultic symbolism, like it has been for decades now.

There is so dang little left that's wholesome. Seriously. Everything we do as a family or as a clan is done outside of town, with the occasional exception of a restaurant, where we might find one without a casino.

And TV ain't no different. I have specifically told the cable company I will not be back because of the programming I am forced to support, whether I watch it or not. As a public space, there ain't nothing on it I care to show my grands.

And that is how I know we are approaching our doom. The primary function of society - Its very reason for existing is to provide a safe place for women, and a proper place to raise up children.

That is long gone, and the people's hearts are inured to it... Their souls are seared.

I didn't find the performance titillating....I found it stupid and boring.
I asked the wife if I could please turn it over, and she gave me sort of a shrug which I interpreted to mean she actually wanted to watch the thing.
I didn't like the music, I didn't like the dancing, I thought the thrusting, gyrating, and general spastic movements dumb.
I do think the people who believe it was not suitable for a halftime show with millions of children correct.
Overall it was just crap. But this is what the younger generation wants.

Brilliantly stated.
I would certainly be happy with something wholesome. I don't need Bible Thumping in that venue. But I DO need something where I can leave the room with it on, and not worry about the kids in the room.

Beers for you, pal.

I read this while watching the SOTU, and I never noticed Trump making the Democrats leave.  Saw a few were not there though.

Then I noticed the article was not about the SOTU.
