Angola's Isabel dos Santos: Africa's richest woman eyes presidency
By Andrew Harding Southern Africa correspondent

Isabel dos Santos is one of the wealthiest women in the world

Angolan billionaire Isabel dos Santos, who is embroiled in a huge financial scandal, has suggested that she may seek to become the country's president.

In a BBC interview, Ms Dos Santos pointedly declined four times to rule out running for the presidency.

Her father José Eduardo dos Santos ruled Angola for 38 years. Prosecutors are seeking to recover $1bn (£760m) Ms Dos Santos and her associates are alleged to owe the state.

Is Angola a communist country?
Nope… Angola is a capitalistic country ruled by MPLA, a party molded on the likes of a communist party. It is more or less like China or Russia, where you have olicharcs attached to the ruling party that also get benefits from their political positions to get personal gains.

Obviously, this lady comes from a wealthy family. I thought, Angola was a totalitarian government, actually, I thought the Communists seized power but obviously, I'm wrong from reading up on this.

Freedom Map, towards South Africa, Portuguese-speaking Angola is definitely listed as a "NOT-FREE" country, purple.

I thought I did hear though, it's a pretty harsh place, Angola.

Since this first BBC article, they have come out with another:

Isabel dos Santos: Africa's richest woman 'ripped off Angola'
By BBC Panorama Team

Leaked documents reveal how Africa's richest woman made her fortune through exploiting her own country, and corruption.

Isabel dos Santos got access to lucrative deals involving land, oil, diamonds and telecoms when her father was president of Angola, a southern African country rich in natural resources.

The documents show how she and her husband were allowed to buy valuable state assets in a series of suspicious deals.

I think the Cubans, maybe even Che, fought in Angola years ago.

The quorum article in post #1 still says, they have a communist model but don't really follow it.

One of their teams was in the world cup 2010, 2006, around there and they did play very well.

Their flag has an emblem on it similar to the hammer and sickle. Similar, not the same.
