DES MOINES, Iowa — Bernie Sanders supporters in Iowa are warning that a lack of enthusiasm for Joe Biden could bring the same result the nomination of another milquetoast Democrat did four years ago: electing Donald Trump.

Sanders backers fret the socialist Vermont senator, 78, is being consistently ignored and underestimated by Beltway insiders and a Washington-based press corps. The same bunch, in their view, who failed to predict Trump's 2016 White House win and were sure Hillary Clinton, who beat Sanders for the Democratic nomination, would easily prevail.

They're particularly steamed Sanders, a socialist who has been in Congress since 1991, isn't getting his due though he's proven to have staying power in public opinion and fundraising, even after suffering a heart attack last October. As of last week, he leads a tight four-horse race in Iowa ahead of the first-in-the-nation caucuses on Feb. 3, raising a record figure of $34.5 million in the final financial quarter of 2019 for a total of $96 million.

Now if we can just convince Bernie's supporters that he'll be back in 2024, they'll vote for Trump to make sure there's no incumbent in his way.

After all the revelations about how the DNC screwed Bernie in 2016, you'd think they'd be a bit more conscious about treating him fairly this time around.  But again...the institutional forces in the DNC want to control who gets the nomination, and it ain't Bernie.

For all the complaints about the RNC, it was very clear early on in 2016 -- even 2015 -- that Trump was not the preferred candidate of the RNC.  But they ran a fair primary nonetheless, and when Trump won, they backed him despite the outcry from many in the party establishment.

Preibus was a hell of a lot more ethical than whatever toadies were running the DNC in 2016, and now in 2020 as well.

Sanders on his best day is a fool.  He runs within the Dem Party knowing they will undercut him.  It is no mystery here, and yet he does it any way.  His followers will do nothing, and yes, some will not vote, some will vote for Trump, and some will stay home.  It's called FREEDOM to vote as you wish, or not.  As it is, only about 65% of America votes.   So the Bernie followers have plenty of company.

A good number are stoners, no doubt. Some might be like my cousin, an unemployed, overweight union member who hates everything about corporations except the huge paycheck she used to receive from one for very little work.

But quite a few might be termed domestic terrorists, i.e., antifa.

Bernie seems to becoming the front runner and is so far able to accumulate some $$ while Warren is losing her popularity and Uncle Joe isn't raising the $$ like he should and he can't count on his buddy Bammy to help him.
