Are we *literally* blackmailing Iraq to not kick out our troops?
Jazz ShawPosted at 9:31 am on January 12, 2020

As Ed Morrissey noted on Friday, the Trump administration’s response to the Iraqi legislature’s non-binding resolution to have our troops leave their country was, shall we say… less than positive. As it turns out, there was more pressure being applied to the Iraqi Prime Minister than a simple refusal to comply. During a call on Wednesday, the White House suggested to Adil Abdul-Hahdi’s people that possible sanctions in response to kicking us out could include freezing the country’s access to their bank accounts in the Federal Reserve in New York City. And that could send Iraq’s already tenuous financial position into a tailspin. (NY Post)

Iraq’s response to the elimination of terrorist mastermind Qassem Soleimani has left the Trump administration in yet another situation of considering something we legally can do, but perhaps shouldn’t. As long as the Iraqis don’t do any more than the non-binding resolution, no action is really required. And if they do move to make the demand mandatory, we would be on shaky moral grounds if we retaliated.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

I'm still reading Jazz's article, he seems to be on our side, top man. I happened to see this article from yesterday as well. I will compare the two. Good post.

Iraqi PM quietly working to keep US troops in country
Jack Detsch

Iraq’s caretaker prime minister privately does not want US troops to withdraw, several sources familiar with the situation told Al-Monitor, though Adel Abdul Mahdi publicly backed a recent parliamentary vote that urged the Donald Trump administration to exit the war-torn country.

Despite calling on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to send an American delegation to Iraq to negotiate the withdrawal of US troops in a readout of a Friday call, Abdul Mahdi is trying to find a way to keep an American presence in the country while attempting to placate Iran-backed militia leaders who want to force 5,200 US troops out, a source familiar with the situation on the ground said.

Abdul Mahdi is attempting to “save face,” a former senior administration official told Al-Monitor. “He doesn’t want us to leave.” By demanding a US exit, the former official said, Abdul Mahdi is using “[the] only leverage he has.”

Sounds like a quid pro quo to me.  Looks like we have the 4th Article of Impeachment, right behind the 3rd Article, killing a terrorist without getting prior approval from Nancy Pelosi.

This is fun!  We got 'im now!®

Sounds like a desperate reply.  Ridiculous really.  Only because It seems difficult for some to come to the reality that Trump exaggerated bigly.  Wasn't imminent threat it was we thought.  And there was no specific credible threat.  But the guy needed to go.  That's more than bigly lies.  Its Foreign policy disaster.

But instead of even acknowledging that Trump was less than honest you try your hand at sarcasm.

And now spouting democommie talking points against killing a terrorist. A severe case of TDS indeed.

Soleimani got what he deserved, perhaps 20 years too late!!!

Trump did the right thing, and we need not shed a tear for the murderous b*st*rd.  You people hawking the nonsense of the Democommies, should try living in a communist country before you criticize the leader of the free world.  A better leader than we have seen in 50 years or more.

That said, Trump should this summer announce a gradual pull out of Iraq.  End the Bush Policy of nation building, and let these people find their own way.  We could occupy this nation for 100 years and they would never gravitate to democracy.  Democracy is against their religion, or so they claim.  So, why waste our youth's blood and our nation's treasury?  Bush was a tea and crumpets fool.  Leave and promise if we have to get involved again, it will not be with boots on the ground.
