Navy SEAL team describes Edward Gallagher as ‘toxic’ and ‘evil’ in videos leaked to New York Times

In harrowing video recordings and documents leaked to The New York Times, the men of Alpha platoon, SEAL Team 7, who turned in Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher describe him as a “toxic” and ruthless platoon chief who killed people indiscriminately during an Iraq tour in 2017.

The recordings, part of investigative materials in Gallagher’s prosecution on alleged war crimes, paint a picture of Gallagher that stands in contrast to statements by President Donald Trump, who circumvented military justice code by pardoning the platoon chief in November because he “wasn’t pleased” with the way the Navy handled his trial.

Platoon members said they witnessed Gallagher shoot civilians and fatally stab a wounded Islamic State captive with a hunting knife, for which Gallagher was accused of war crimes.

Did any testify for the record when they had the chance to bury him in the UCMJ proceedings?

No?

Then STFU already.

Gallagher said he did not see the videos until after he had been charged and claimed one of his accusers came to visit him to “apologize for what they did but that they had to stick with the fake stories or be charged with making false statements.”

If that is the case, then someone higher up is pushing hard to take Gallagher down, someone in a position to charge others with making false statements.  Either someone just can't let go (remind you of anything?), there is enmity for Gallagher, or both.

The Navy has a bit of a history with this kind of character assassination history.  It took something like 40 years for them to reverse the travesty of the USS Indianapolis CO being wrongfully charged and convicted is one good example.

There have always been spit and polish types who have no love for special forces units and personnel who, while they can be force multipliers, have a history of some officers trying to shoehorn them into the 'regular' force. Some are of flag rank, and resent the acclaim and respect the SF get while not strictly adhering to protocol for the 'regular' force.
The Indy was on what amounted to a 'special' mission, secret, delivering the nukes that ended the war.
