Plan to ban tobacco sales to anyone under 21 will hit the military too
By: Leo Shane III

Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em, because troops under 21 won’t be allowed to for much longer.

A bipartisan congressional plan to raise the federal minimum age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21 was included in a sweeping budget bill expected to be passed into law by the end of the week. And contrary to previous comments from lawmakers, there is no exception in the law for members of the military.

In a joint statement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., called the move a “lifesaving” change for thousands of young Americans. Advocates estimate that raising the purchase age by three years will cut down smoking-related cancers and respiratory illnesses by more than 220,000 cases in coming years.

If you can’t trust kids under 21 with tobacco how can you trust them with the vote?

And this new age limit will do................diddly squat! Kids under 18 have no problem getting smokes, alcohol or drugs now so what kind of idiot believes that upping the age limit will have any effect whatsoever? Well okay it will have an effect, it will create an ever larger illegal market or older friends will just make the purchases for them creating a larger non violent criminal class.
<p>
I bet Meathead Reiner has got his his fat fingers in this, he's just the it takes a village idiot type that would push this 'for the children'.

It's a waste. A waste of legislative time, a waste of regulations, a waste of time.

Why, it just means more non PC kids will be saddled with criminal records for the crime of ...smoking (tobacco) cigarettes. Anyone who supplies the 'little nippers' of a mere 20 years and 364 days with a pack will be in violation of the whole bit, too, no doubt, and parents whose packs get filched for the occasional coffin nail will doubtless seen as anything from neglectful to abusive to contributing to the delinquency of a minor (while those who push for their little kids to have gender reassignment surgery are "heroes" of the Left).
 In the meantime, the push to legalize recreational marijuana continues....

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
