Tom Brokaw whined on Stephen Colbert's show about how the mainstream media no longer has a monopoly on the news. Poor Tom. He yearns for the "good old days" when the MSM could project their spin on the news while mostly unchecked by outside sources. He is upset that monopoly is now challenged by the social media.

The MSM's decline began some 4 decades ago as normal people started recognizing that the MSM were uniformly Lib partisan actors. Rush Limbaugh, desktop publishing, email, and the Internet accelerated the swelling rejection. While social media have contributed, the keys to normal people rejecting the MSM have been recognition of MSM partisanship and the creation and growth of alternative news sources.
