I would simply table it.  Hold off on moving forward until relevant evidence is presented.  Because up until now, not a single piece of evidence has been presented indicating any offense has been committed.  The Judiciary Committee hearing was the biggest farce of all.  Four college professors giving their opinions on the constitutionality of hypotheticals?  And not one of them citing a fact of something that actually occurred?  Please.

Yes, table the motion.  And have Democrats whine about how the Senate won't move forward on a process with zero evidence?  Absolutely.  It is a win-win.  Make the issue about why the Republicans won't move forward - not about how the Republicans killed it.

Table the motion, Mr. McConnell.

Do you really think the press won't play that as evil Republicans covering for an even more evil President?

They are going to do that anyway.  But what they won't be able to do is to cross that threshhold by citing fact of action that is an offense.

Even today, I heard some Dem congressman describing an exchange between a mayor and a fire chief where the mayor says he will give the fire chief new equipment if the fire chief does a favor for him.  The fact of the matter is that this does not at all describe what Trump did.  It is a false narrative that needs to be challenged daily for the next 300 days.  And the only way to do that is to make it the focus.  Because the way to defeat the Democrats here is to defeat their strategy.  Defeat their narrative.  Defeat their hypotheticals.  Make their lies the focus.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-

I hope the Grand Old Party is up for that challenge.

A good defense attorney will always choose the motion to dismiss over a trial.  Juries are notoriously unreliable as are witnesses.

Agreed.   Dismissing this farce will allow us to return to the issues that just might re-elect the President, and that the Dems are most afraid of  -  jobs and prosperity.

But as you well know.... even 'if' the Republicans defeat the Democrats' narrative, strategy and hypotheticals.... their leftist media will never report on it... and a good portion of Americans will never know about it.

The dilemma is like a Catch-22.   Dismiss the motion and end 'this' Impeachment ... and the Democrats can and will only start another.   And another.   And another.   Thus making the evil "I" word associated with Trump front-page news every day up to Election Day (their intention all along).

Have the Senate hold the trial ....and there is always the chance that things won't go in Trump's favor (enemies everywhere, even within his own ranks).   So this decision cannot be made ""lightly"".

I, for one, would love to see the rats get subpoenaed and have to go under oath and testify.  But I have no illusions about how that outcome could backfire and could end up harming rather than helping Trump's case.

Look at late night TV right now.  It is now almost wall to wall destroy Trump coverage.  No countering allowed.

I think people have wised up more than the Lame Stream Media and all their lackeys realizes.  Even my moderate centralist spouse now recognizes it.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

We agree, but for different reasons.  I say go full steam ahead with the trial in the Senate IF hearsay testimony is inadmissible and there's no obstacle to the President's attorney calling witnesses, including, but not limited to:  the WB and Schiff.  And that sniveling little punk, Vindman.

I don't trust the Senate as far as I can throw it.

@catfish1957

Very true. I haven't watched more than 15 minutes of late night tv since Leno retired.  Same swill on every channel, but Kimmel is probably the worse.

What the HELL is it that makes ANYBODY from NYC think they speak for America? SOB's wouldn't recognize America if you were to kidnap them and release them in the actual south.
Anyone who isn't paranoid in 2021 just isn't thinking clearly!
