Bogota: French Thales engineer shot dead

The engineer was in Colombia only for a trade fair there as one of the exhibitors. I can see how they can think it was an assassination, his companion not shot but I don't see what this could be about. On the other hand, perhaps it doesn't look like a random killing.

The fatal shooting of a French engineer in Bogota was an "assassination," police claim. The victim worked for the French aerospace company Thales, which is among exhibitors attending Colombia's Expodefensa trade fair.

Bogota police major Robert Mendez told reporters that the street shooting late on Monday was an "assassination perpetrated by a hitman."

"We reject the hypothesis of a robbery," said Mendez.
