This is great and not too long ago, I listened to one of those Jackie Gleason orchestra(?) albums, this is probably his most famous one that you posted but another one I listened too as well. It checks all the boxes for being "music for squares".

Per Washington Square, it belongs here... those vocals and some versions also actually, imho, put it in the "folk music" category, there were a lot of good folk songs in the day and I don't consider a lot of that for squares but a lot of it fits in here. I toyed with a "folk music" thread but I don't know the music well enough, sure, Dylan, Baez, Seeger, Kingston Trio and so on probably fit that.

We have a "folk music" store here, I've window shopped on but have never gone in. It looks like instruments, sheet music and such. I don't know what else they might have but I don't want to push that distinctly different category into this one too much though, there can be some overlap.

This was one of the first records we got when my parents bought our first record player. I heard them both so many times because one side was Daddy's favorite side, and the other was Mother's.

*I have no idea if "Let's Go Calypso" ever got popular anywhere but our house. I don't ever remember hearing it on oldies stations.

What a wonderful song.... the Raymond Lefevre version is equally brilliant.

Yes, some of these have a few artists who performed them, Raymond's probably the original. It's hard to choose. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore where artists will perform one song or instrumental in this case, that was a hit.

These are great, especially Jo Stafford's version. But my favorite version of "Buttons and Bows" will always be Frazier's which I posted on the Comedy thread. It will always be guffaw hilarious to me.

Barry DeVorzon & Perry Botkin Jr. -Nadia's Theme (The Young & Restless)

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

I guess, this is a "clickbait" article but interesting nonetheless:

Getting a Theme Song

After her stunning performance at the Olympics, Nadia's worldwide popularity soared.

When sports reporter Robert Riger presented a series of slow-motion montages of Nadia on the television program ABC's Wide World Of Sports, he played them with the theme "Cotton's Dream from the film Bless the Beasts and the Children. The segment was aired over and over, and the piece came to be known as "Nadia's Theme." The song became a top-10 single in the fall of 1976, and was officially renamed "Nadia's Theme" by its composers.

Story: https://mydailymagazine.com/post-100322/11/?dai=1sh0Ssz2NqemES0QgkEiwm

Longer version:

Puberty Hits

As puberty hit, the Romanian government urged Nadia to take a break from the sport, since gymnasts are generally better performers when they’re small. She stopped training and decided to eat everything in sight. In a short span of time she grew several inches taller and a stone heavier - but later that year, and regardless of her size, she went back to competing - and also went back to winning medals for her country. Nadia was unbeatable, puberty or not.

Dutch-Indonesian duo, the Blue Diamonds,  in this English version, they revised "Sukiyaki" from being a sad song... to something a bit different....

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

The charms of Sukiyaki
The arms of Sukiyaki
Are all that I long for since I left old Nagasaki...

Why did I roam
Far away from home
I hope that she will wait for me...

A lot of their songs are indeed, in Dutch...
