We have a comedy thread already, this isn't it.

Better recording of "26 Miles":

Dinning Sister -  Santa Catalina (Island Of Romance) - (c.1947).

Sounds like something one might hear on late night AM radio before the big top 40 boom in the '50s and '60s.

Four Preps - Calcutta

Quando, Quando, Quando - Engelbert Humperdinck

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

I never really appreciated this until I heard someone else perform it.

Now we're groovin', cats!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeDgOUoDTsY&t=83

Funny. The only thing I remember about this movie is "The new phonebook is here! The new phonebook is here!"

As he was discovering his rhythm, he went from snapping on 2 and 4 to 1 and 3. It was probably a continuity flaw in the film, but it works for the story.

Listening to people clap (or snap) on the 1 and 3 is painful to me, which is why I love this clip where Harry Connick, Jr., tricks the audience into clapping on the upbeat (at about the 39-second mark). Watch the drummer (who's probably the one most affected by the downbeat clapping) celebrate in the background.

Here's a song that would probably trigger some folks today. Cultural appropriation or some such nonsense. I'm posting it anyway.

I remember performing this when I was in Brownies. (Can we still say "Brownies"?) We weren't nearly as good as this lovely lady. Wish we'd had ways to make videos in those days.

It might have seemed abrupt when I said this wasn't a "comedy thread" but @jmyrlefuller  has actually already posted, music that belongs in this category, something like this, I forget which one. Also other selections posted prior. I remember when something per Airport was posted, a lot of good postings.

It amazes me that something like this came out in 1957, this is about the 3rd time I've posted this on the forum. I really like it.

The song in the background was what I was aiming for. "Crazy Rhythm" was the name (though there was some irony in the originally frenetic song being played Welk-style). The dancing was a little side humor, fitting in with the "music for squares" theme.

For the record, I missed the memo.

The original, upbeat version:

Pat Boone - Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom Time (note, I think he gives it a singing that seems a bit "intoxicated") Following is Perez Prado's hit version, instrumental.

His 2 big hits that I'm aware of.  The easy listening, "music of  your life" station would always play "Java", I came to like "Cotton Candy" a bit more.

I dunno, aren't Vince Guaraldi, Dave Brubeck and several others on this page a bit too cool to be square? Anyway, here's what is perhaps Vince Guaraldi's most recognizable piece of music:

Thanks for the version of "Green Eyes"! The only other version I'd heard was by Barry Manilow - very well done, but part of a Big Bands retro album.

When I was in high school in 1970 +/- 2 years "Cotton Candy" was one of our regulars in Marching Band. Speaking of Marching Band memories:

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

The year before my freshman year the high school's Marching Band went to the Rose Parade and "Georgy Girl" was one of the songs to which they marched. I missed out on the Rose Parade, but we played it in SF's Columbus Day Parade in my freshman year. OTOH, in my senior year we traveled up to Victoria, BC for the Victoria Day Parade (honoring Queen Victoria's birthday). Missed one cool event, made another cool event. This was all pretty heady stuff for the only high school in a town of 20K-25K.

Not the best video of this performance, but it has the words both in Spanish and English. Love that.
