The Senate jury pool is tainted

Should the House impeach the president, the Senate is then charged with conducting a trial presided over by the chief justice of the Supreme Court and heard and judged by all 100 United States senators.

The first thing Democrats are eager to remind the American people is that if there is a trial for removal of the president, he is not entitled to the same rights, privileges and protocols as a criminal defendant. They claim It would be a political trial with no jeopardy of life or liberty for the president. That doesn’t seem right or just.

The removal of a president should not be about stripping him (or her) of due process or procedural or substantive due process, it should be on par with the rights afforded every American — especially considering that removing a president is akin to depriving Americans of their right to select a president and the term they elected him to serve.

There will never be a senate trial.  The Dems aren't going to put themselves into a situation in which they do not control the narrative.  They would prefer to leave the question open and hope the lack of closure fires up the base.

Dems can say Trump isn't entitled to those rights, but they won't be in charge of the process. Even when Clinton was tried by an opposition-controlled Senate, his rights weren't curtailed in any way that mattered.

They're in the minority, and they know it. The younger ones lack strategic foresight; the others would wilt in the event their professed fever dream would ever become a reality.

Anyone who remembers the Republicans during Obama, and the Republicans during the first term of Trump (or during much of the Bush era), knows what I mean. Talk a big game to get elected, then when actually in power, do everything in their power to disappoint.
