ON DEAF EARS: Defense Secretary Mark Esper is on the other side of the world meeting with Asian allies, but he has one eye on his biggest immediate problem, the increasing likelihood that the Pentagon won’t get its full 2020 budget anytime soon.
The current continuing resolution, or CR, runs out Thursday, and with no agreement on a dozen annual spending bills, including $738 billion for defense, Congress is poised to approve another stop gap measure pushing the deadline until Dec. 20
“With the CR expiration just days away, I urge Congress to pass a @DeptofDefense budget that provides sufficient, predictable, & timely funding,†Esper tweeted Friday. “Our warfighters give far more than what is ever asked of them -- and we need to give them all that we can! We owe it to them.â€
