White House official arrives to testify in impeachment probe

By Mike Lillis - 11/16/19 10:23 AM EST

A top White House budget official arrived in the Capitol on Saturday morning to testify privately in the Democrats' swift-moving impeachment investigation into President Trump's handling of foreign policy in Ukraine.

Mark Sandy, a senior official at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), is expected to lend new insights into Trump's decision to freeze almost $400 million in U.S. aid to Kyiv over the summer as he was simultaneously pressing Ukrainian leaders to open investigations that might help the president politically.

The White House has sought to prevent administration officials from cooperating in the impeachment investigation, which it deems invalid. Sandy is the latest in a long list of officials to defy that blockade and agree to be interviewed under a Democratic subpoena.

Budget official says he didn't know why military aid was delayed: report

White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) official Mark Sandy, who testified in the impeachment inquiry Saturday, told congressional investigators that he did not know why aid to Ukraine was held up, The New York Times reported, citing two sources.

Sandy also said he had never come across a similar situation during his time with the OMB, the two people familiar with his testimony told The Times.

Sandy testified Saturday in the impeachment probe into President Trump after he was subpoenaed by House Democrats, making him the latest to defy the White House's attempt to prevent officials from testifying in the inquiry. He is the first budget official to testify.

Maybe you and Mr. Sandy should watch this and find out why he has never seen anything like it before.
