State Department anti-corruption efforts are generally ineffective at influencing foreign governments to reform, and the pretense that a few career US bureaucrats were about to clean up Ukraine but then Trump ruined it is absurd

Increasingly, one cannot trust statements coming out of this White House. Readouts of presidential calls are often obscure, especially in this administration, but I've never heard of a complete fabrication. Imagine the puzzlement on the Ukrainian side when they saw the WH readout
