What the latest election results signify for both parties in 2020
By Douglas Schoen, opinion contributor — 11/10/19 10:00 AM EST

In many ways, the election results last week, specifically in Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania, have noteworthy implications for both Democrats and Republicans going into 2020. However, both parties should be wary before drawing absolute conclusions from these results.

In Kentucky, Democrat Andy Beshear appears to have defeated unpopular Republican Governor Matt Bevin, who still refuses to concede, by a thin margin of 5,000 votes. In many ways, this victory is significant, particularly because Bevin ran a nationalized campaign and consistently linked himself to President Trump. Not only did Trump make several statements of support for Bevin, but he also held an eleventh hour rally with the Kentucky governor in an effort to ensure his reelection.

However, given that Bevin is profoundly unpopular in Kentucky, Democrats should proceed with caution and refrain from using this race as a bellwether for the electability of Trump as well as his political weight. As Kentucky governor, Bevin commissioned wildly unfavorable policies. Earlier this year, he backed a reform that cut pensions for new teachers and funding for education, which resulted in massive teacher protests that shut down every public school in the state.

According to Ann Coulter, what it signifies is that unrestricted immigration, legal and illegal, has turned a number of previously Republican states blue and will turn many in the future if left unchecked.
It was necessarily the increase of liberal federal workers in Virginia that cost Pubbies in the recent elections.
It was the fact that  a much larger percentage of the Virginia population is now made up of recent immigrants who overwhelmingly vote for Dems  by about 4-1.

Although I've yet to see published evidence of it, I sense that a lot of the "suburban shift" in Pennsylvania (from red to blue) was pre-determined as a result of reapportionment (as ordered by the leftist PA Supreme Court a couple of years' back).

Not sure how much difference this will make in 2020.
I also sense that Trump will draw even more supporters to the polls in the "Pennsyltucky" area of PA (the "T")...
