Don't they all?  They're done carrying on about hurricanes this year, so the attention now turns to winter weather.

They were sooo disappointed that 'Cane season and their predictions were a total bust.

When I was a sprout in MI, I considered the "dead of Winter" to be around the end of January.
You want dead of Winter? I remember January weekends stuck in the house when the "high" for the day was zero or below and winds howling out of the north.
Stuck inside watching polka shows on tv Saturday and Sunday afternoons (one or two channels) and waiting until five o'clock when Bugs Bunny would come on. Lucky if an exciting show like "Industry On Parade" was televised. Those films of tomatoes being canned were thrilling.  999yawn

Try that in a trapper's cabin 30 miles out of town... Just enough room for a cot and a stove, and a place to hang your pack... And your morning constitutional MUST be outside in 4ft of snow.
It's a trip.

Except for Dorian.

Well, at least I didn't see too many reporters standing outside in 180 mph winds as in past, a bit less potent hurricanes.  Always scares me to see some poor shlub hanging onto something for dear life while reporting that yes, it is windy outside.  Really?

Now for winter our local stations have reporters showing us piles of road salt and telling us that local and state road crews are prepared for snow.  Gee, I hope so.   *****rollingeyes*****

Did trapping for a living pay off?

I thought that was what they made buckets (chamber pots) for.

@Gefn

This is my best friend's cat, Leonid, a pure bred Siberian.  Unfortunately, he's not much of a snuggler.  My friend's house has heat vents built into the floors instead of the walls.  So when Leonid wants to warm up, he sits on one of the vents.

At one point, I had two cats and both would sleep with me.  We would form a cat sandwich.  One cat on either side and yours truly in the middle.  Now THAT was heavenly on a cold night.

Except that.... other than the nice warmth..... you wake up with frozen and stiff muscles from having slept in the same damned position all night long with one cat in front and one in back.   Subconsciously, you just don't move.

Cats have a brain wave that immobilizes Homo Sapiens, causing us to freeze in location until they move.

Didn't I just see an article about that posted a day or two back...?

Get a shelter/rescue cat. Choose wisely -- I believe most of these animals know that you've "saved them" from a very hard life.

Lol.   But it only works on some of us (the weaker, stupider humans).  Some humans actually make the cats get up and reposition.  Hard to believe, eh?

I dunno.  I have some sort of repulsing ray emanating from me.  It's the Mrs they all flock to at all hours of the night, while I try to swat them off without waking Missus.

Fess up.   You've drop-kicked them before... when the Mrs wasn't around, haven't you.   They remember.  lolololol

At the time it did alright - but only if you like that sort of thing. My work was usually pretty seasonal, so it gave me something to do in the winter.  Mostly marten and beaver...
