Big Government From the GOP’s Youngest Senator

Quote
At first glance, Senator Hawley represents the future of the GOP. He is young, well-spoken and articulate, brings new ideas to the tables, and is remarkably hard-working (he’s introduced 38 bills since taking office last January). He would seem to be the kind of Senator the GOP desperately needs, and the perfect man to represent the party. I could easily see Hawley serving as Senate Majority/Minority Leader for the Republican Party, and possibly running for President at some point.

However, these traits mean nothing if Senator Hawley fails to hold to basic conservative values.

One of the bills he sponsors, the HIRE Act, is a blatant attempt to use federal agencies as jobs programs for distressed parts of the nation. His SMART Act would be a massive overreach of government into the private workings of social media companies. His End Support for Internet Censorship Act, which would result in the opposite effect of what the title implies, further reflects his animus for social media. He has sponsored a bill to regulate pay-to-win options in video games. He supports legislation that would restrict what technology companies can ship to China based on “national security reasons.”

The Republican Party was created progressive as its political ascendancy from Lincoln to Hoover attests.
It was never a party of Principled Conservatism, not for a day.
During their 75 year span, big government expanded, judicial activism grew and trade protectionism ruled. Hawley apparently has found a home.

Agreed.  The GOP has never truly been conservative and neither are the GOP cheerleaders in the media(Rush-Hannity).

Intuitive and on the mark!
What is astounding is why so many are persuaded that slogans represent the
core values of political parties rather than the horse manure they truly are.
At the end of the 19th century, Republicans boasted of being free traders while
POTUS McKinley told Congress that the USA desperately needed aggressive Duties
and Tariffs to protect our "infant industries." At that time, our industries included
US Steel (Carnegie) and Standard Oil (Rockefeller) two of the largest and most
profitable corporations in world history!!!

Howard's writing is disingenuous.

The HIRE Act does not make the government any bigger. It is the proposal to move existing federal agencies to areas with lower costs and expenses, which could actually make the budget SMALLER. The writing also suggest unrestricted trade (and exploitation) with still-Communist China.

His Twitter feed, by the way, retweets (with no sense of irony or criticism) far-left "Squad" member Ilhan Omar. So if Mr. Howard wants to gripe about "true conservatism," he should check himself.

He's a concern troll.
