In other words, stay away it’s a mess.

I do admire those people who do this though. Not only the winners, even the people who come in at the end. How amazing and what hard work they go through to train for this. I can barely run a mile and a half without collapsing but I enjoy a good power walk.

I have at least one acquaintance running this. He does trail runs (= hilly) and is a pacer for a running club in the East Bay. The New York City Marathon is one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, https://www.worldmarathonmajors.com .

I have a friend who has great experience in all of those runs, he was originally from CT, then, to California.... but in his day, he was a great marathoner, I mean, he ran Boston, New York, multiple times and a number of others to boot, so in my judgement, he was such. Now, he mainly does easy exercises, walking and the like.

Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya wins the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon, in her race debut, with an unofficial finish time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 38 seconds.


Geoffrey Kamworor of Kenya wins the men's division of the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon, his second time winning the race, with an unofficial finish time of 2 hours, 8 minutes and 13 seconds.

My friend was a bit under 4:21, just under 10 minutes per mile. I believe he's 50-something.

Mr. M is a marathoner who ran NYC a time or two when it wasn't comprised of 50,000 freakin' runners. We watched with interest. Nike's runners were wearing their new magic cheating shoes, but it didn't help in the women's race. First and second went to adidas runners.

I learned last evening that another friend ran NYC as well, ~4:37, IIRC. For those of elite ability level I doubt the difference between high-end Nikes, Adidas, Altras, Hokas, etc. is like to be as significant as weather, shade/exposure, breeze, focus, terrain, etc.. The phase of the Moon might be less significant.
