Adam Eaton works out a one-out walk . . . steals second . . . scores on Juan Soto's two-out single to right . . . the Nats buy a little more potential insurance . . .

4-2, Nats, middle of the eighth . . .

Patrick Corbin finishes his third scoreless inning . . . tonight's game is furthering the case this Series is already making for the-sooner-the-better robot umpiring . . .

It's 4-2 Nationals after eight full innings . . .

Absolutely but A. J Hinch gets the credit for blowing this one.

A big two-run single by Adam Eaton with the ducks on the pond and the Nats are now three outs away from the Promised Land . . .

6-2, Nats going to the bottom of the ninth, the fate of the Astros in the hands of their biggest bats . . .

@Bigun
If I'm Hinch I would have walked Juan Soto in the eighth.

If I'm Hinch Zack Greinke is still on the mound in the 8th.

Meh. Until the Buccos are back in the World Series,  I won't be watching ( and we know how long a wait that will be).

@All

So lucky and so fortunate to see the NATS win.   They're the 'oldest' team in the MLB and probably won't be able to repeat.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario......

"Mr. Lerner.....here is the World Series trophy we promised you.

Every Nationals player interviewed mentioned the real love the team members have for one another.

So...are we going to re-sign Anthony Rendon and Stephen Strasburg, Mr. Lerner....or are you going to follow the route of the Florida Marlins who won and broke up the roster?"

"Mike...(Rizzo), we're going to invest most of our player salaries in starting pitching.

We're going to let Anthony go, but we're going to sign Strasburg and Cole.   Let's go after a 3rd basement like Donaldson (Braves).  We can get 3..possibly 4 players for Anthony."

Kudos to Scherzer. Pitched a heck of a game (he also is an alum of my sister's high school, so there's that)!

 Gerrit Cole already disowning Astros: ‘I’m not employed by the team’
By Ken Davidoff
October 31, 2019 | 2:35am

HOUSTON — His team just having suffered a stunning World Series Game 7 loss to end its season, Gerrit Cole held an awkward exchange with an Astros media relations official about speaking to the media late Wednesday.

“I’m not employed by the team,” declared the right-hander, who then relented, “I guess as a representative of myself …” and placed himself in front of a group of reporters.  ...  NY Post

@DCPatriot

Congrats to the Nats!
I got the series I was hoping for in the last 2 years.
(I will be more careful what I wish for in the future  :cool:).
Rendon is pretty amazing.
As was pointed out earlier, this was the "road field advantage" series.
They'll see each other again soon in Florida.

Astros future?

(1) Gerrit Cole is already making his exit, so it appears.
(2) Verlander was disappointing in the Series, but he didn't get a great deal of run support. No home starter did, on either team. His chances of winning a world Series game are getting slimmer by the year.
(3) Urquidy looked great in his start. McCullers will be ready. Aaron Sanchez should be back next year, along with Verlander and Greinke, the starters look okay.
(4) Will Wade Miley remember how to pitch after Labor Day?
(5) Hopefully Pressly returns to his lights-out, early season form. Not sure he was 100% healthy during the post season. Astros should take a look at improving the bullpen this off season. Not bad now, but could use a good lefty.
(6) Wait 'til next year.
For what it is worth, Vegas already has the Astros, less than 24 hours after the final out, the favorite to win it all in 2020.
(7) Maldonado and Chirinos aren't getting younger, another position to take a hard look at.
(8) Can Correa stay healthy for a full season?

This year has been a lot of fun. 2 no hitters, best record in team history. We still have the makings to become a dynasty, although winning last night would have helped the narrative.
