1969 again
Abbey Road anniversary set turns listeners into flies on studio’s walls

By now, people know what to expect from a Giles Martin–overseen, 50th-anniversary edition of a Beatles album: a thorough audio refurbishing of the record in question (based on the original master tapes and utilizing the latest studio technology) and lots of incomplete or alternate takes intended to allow outsiders (i.e., practically everyone) to feel like flies on the walls while John, Paul, George, and Ringo go about making the making of pop-music history sound easy.

Capitol Records’ new four-disc, semicentennial “Super Deluxe Edition” of Abbey Road—the Beatles’ final and best-selling group effort—is no exception.  ...

In short, like Martin’s Live at the Hollywood Bowl, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and The Beatles, the super-deluxe Abbey Road sets a new standard. Expect previous digital-era editions of Abbey Road to begin showing up, reasonably priced, wherever used CDs are sold.

I got Abbey Road as one of my birthday presents in 1969 (my 14th birthday).

And even today it's still great listening. Leave it to the Beatles to go out in a blaze of glory like that.

I drove my 1953 MGTD,  2 nights in a row in August 1965, to see the Beatles at Hollywood Bowl. No tickets.

The first night we were turned back by security. The 2nd night, we were told to sit along the hills, which we did.

At the time, it was just the sort of thing kids just out of high schooll did. Who would have thought we would be looking back 54 years later at how cool it was.

Hollywood Bowl is a beautiful theatre. It must have been amazing to see the Beatles play there. My cousins (much older) saw them at Shea Stadium and it was one of my favorite stories from my childhood

@Gefn

The Beatles at the Bowl . . .

And a couple of years ago George Martin's son Giles did an amazing job cleaning up the sound for this, taken from all four of their 1964-65 concerts there . . .

My favorite Beatles album!

I loved them all...played them to death.

But my favorite album, musically and artistically?   Rubber Soul.

It was said that John Lennon had a very serious stalker problem back in the day.

Listen to the lyrics of all the aforementioned/featured.
