The American whose wife allegedly struck and killed a British teen was not registered as a diplomat in the UK — possibly rendering the couple ineligible for diplomatic immunity, a lawyer for the victim’s family claimed Tuesday.
Jonathan Sacoolas was not named on the official diplomatic list, meaning he and his wife, Anne Sacoolas, may not have been covered by the protection, attorney Mark Stephens told the Guardian.
Stephens said this was confirmed by the UK’s Foreign Office, which handles Britain’s affairs around the globe.
The US Department of State did not immediately respond to a Post request about Sacoolas’ registration as a diplomat, but had previously said that “immunity is rarely waived.†...
